Welcome to Karakol
Karakol also is a fantastic base for splendid trekking tours in the Tienschan mountains.
Karakol today, in addition to its government building, theater, library and green parks, offers its visitors an interesting market. Also, every Sunday morning the famous cattlemarket is held. Two special sights should be emphasized for their beauty, the wooden mosque constructed without a single metal nail, built between 1907 and 1911 by the local Dungans, and a charming small Orthodox church from 1895. It was used for storage during the Soviet era but has been restored and is again in use as a church.
